As we continue our exploration of the “Natural State” through undivided vipashyana and compassion, I would like to speak to you about the need for clear and courageous motivation.
Trungpa Rinpoche wrote in The Myth of Freedom and the Path of Meditation:
As long as we follow a spiritual path that promises salvation, miracles, liberation, we are bound in the “golden chain of spirituality.” Such a chain, with its inlaid jewels and ornate embellishments, may be nice to wear, but it imprisons us. People think they can wear the gold chain as jewelry without being locked in by it, but they’re fooling themselves. As long as one’s approach to spirituality is based on ennobling the ego, it is spiritual materialism; more of a self-destructive than a creative process.”
How can we accept our personal reality and our challenges without taking refuge in fantasy and instead walk the true path of awakening?
